Asian stocks open mixed on week's first session

Asian stocks started trading today in the first session of the week with mixed performance, as both the Japanese and South Korean stock indices opened positively stable while the Chinese stock indices fell, amid an absence of trading on other Asian stock markets due to Easter holiday and other public holidays.

 

The markets are looking forward to the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe meeting with EU leaders on Thursday before heading to Washington for a summit with US President Donald Trump, in which they're expected to discuss a trade deal between the two countries. in addition to an extension of the waiver on U.S. sanctions on Iran and Iran's oil importers.

 

Japanese stocks rose during today's trading session, with the broader Topix index rising by 0.01% to gain (0.18 point) up to 1,617.11, Nikkei 225 index also rose by 0.03% (7.71 points) up to 22,208.27.

 

As for the Chinese stock indices, CSI 300 fell by 0.30% to lose 12.49 points and reach 4,108.12, the Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.25% (8.11 points) to reach 3,262.68, while the Kospi index of South Korean shares rose by 0.11% to gain 2.36 points and reach the level of 2,218.51.
