Asia opens the week mixed

Asian stock indices opened the first session of the week mixed, with Japan in particular mixed, while Australia, Hong Kong, and South Korea lost ground, as China and New Zealand advanced. 

 

Earlier Japanese data showed industrial production up 3.8% in October, while analysts expected 2.3%. 

 

Retail sales in Japan rose 0.4% in October, while housing starts fell 8.3%.

 

Australia's inflation index by MI rose 0.3% in November, compared to a 0.1% drop in October. 

 

The Reserve Bank of Australia will convene tomorrow, expected to maintain rates at record lows of 0.25%. 

 

New Zealand's business confidence index fell to 6.9 in November from 15.7. 

 

Japan's TOPEX fell 0.46%, while Nikkei 225 rose 0.08% to 26,666. 

 

China's CSI 300 climbed 1.43% to 5,052, as Shanghai rose 1.18% to 3,448. 

 

Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.32%, while South Korea's KOSPI declined 0.43% to 2,622.
