US stocks rise ahead of Biden's stimulus package unveil

US stock indices opened higher on Thursday, despite the release of disappointing data, as markets anticipate President-elect Joe Biden's reveal of his huge stimulus plan.

 

Biden Biden will reveal later today trillions of dollars of Covid relief during the first year of his term, with some estimates putting it at $2 trillion. 

 

Data showed today that the initial unemployment claims in the US rose to 965,000 last week, worse than forecasts of 785,000.

 

As for stocks, Dow Jones rose 0.5% or 146 points to 31,207 as of 15:15 GMT, Nasdaq rose 0.5% or 62 points to 13,190, and S&P 500 rose 0.3% or 12 points to 3,821.
