Gold prices steadied today, amid quiet trading as the US stock and bond markets were closed and ahead of launch of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The dollar index held against a basket of major currencies at 97.5 points as of 20:40 GMT, after hitting a high of 97.7 points and a low of 97.5 points.
The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, will launch tomorrow, and a number of world figures in politics, economics, billionaires and bankers will attend the forum, for a period of four days.
Markets are also closely following President Donald Trump's impeachment trail before the Senate after accusations by Democrats in the House of Representatives, which may lead to his removal from office.
Gold futures (due February) settled at $1,560.8 as of 20:43 GMT, with a high of $1,562.7 and a low of $1,555.9.
